Harry Potter 3D | Movieland at Boulevard | Richmond VA | Historic ...

It may seem an unlikely pair: a historic locomotive assembly building circa 1887 and the highly-anticipated 2011 finale of the gripping, internationally acclaimed Harry Potter series…in 3D no less. Welcome to the quirky contrast that is Richmond: a city dedicated to preserving its past while forging new roads into the future.

Bow Tie Cinema’s Movieland at Boulevard Square opened in February 2009, the vision of Charley Moss and his son, Ben. When they first encountered the Richmond Locomotive and Machine Works site, they saw beauty and potential in an aging industrial complex. The family-owned company was created over 100 years ago by B.S. Moss. He operated a series of street-front Nickelodeons until the 1930’s when he left Vaudeville to focus on motion pictures cinemas. In 1936, he opened The Criterion Theater on Broadway, in New York’s Time Square.

Today, Bow Tie Cinemas owns 18 theaters and 150 screens and has a uniquely service-oriented approach to the movie-going experience. The 17-screen Movieland at Boulevard features stadium-style auditoriums, a wine and beer café, custom-designed rocking chair seats, and architecture that celebrates the sites contribution to the rail era in Richmond.
