A touch of the silver screen visits this year's Wilton Relay
This year's Wilton Relay for Life will sparkle with a touch of Hollywood glitter. "We're having a Hollywood theme this year," said Debbie Colgan, Wilton Relay's staff partner at the American Cancer Society. "Relay teams can choose names from their favorite movies if they want."
Fittingly, the kick-off for this year's Wilton Relay will take place at Bow Tie Cinemas at 21 River Road, on Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event is titled "A Night at The Movies."
"We are hoping to get a celebrity — an actress, preferably — to speak," said Ms. Colgan.
This year's honorary chair, Betsey deGroff, the choral director at Wilton High School, will be introduced at the event. "She has been so committed to relay and has gotten a lot of WHS students involved," said Ms. Colgan.
A mini-luminaria ceremony will also mark the kick off event. The actual Wilton Relay will take place on May 11 at the Wilton High School track, and one of the hallmarks of the event is the luminaria that light the field during the candlelight ceremony honoring cancer survivors and loved ones lost to the disease. This marks the 15th year Wilton Relay, which is an overnight event in which many camp out in tents on the WHS track.
