Cape Veterans Day Parade to step off at 11 am Friday

The annual Veterans Day Parade will be kick off at 11 a.m. next Friday, Nov. 11, to honor all those who have lost their lives and for those who have and are proudly serving our country.

South Cape Community Redevelopment Agency Economic Development Manager Helen Ramey said this is the first year the parade will be held at 11 a.m. In past years it has been held at 4 p.m.

"It is a wonderful way to spend your day," she said.

The parade route will be held on Southeast 47th Terrace from Southeast 9th Place marching east to Southeast 15th Avenue.

The parade will feature more than 50 units, which will include marching bands, veterans groups, the Shriners, drill teams and much more.

Ramey said the CRA has sponsored the parade for the past three years. She said it is the largest and most wonderful parade in Southwest Florida.

"It is wonderful to see the outpouring of people that come to pay their respect," Ramey said.

Royal Family Receives Warm Welcome to St. Maarten.

Airport:--- The Royal Family comprising of Queen Beatrix, her son Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, and his wife Princess Máxima received a warm welcome when they touched down at the Princess Juliana International Airport on Thursday morning. The aircraft carrying the Royal Family touched down at 10:30am. At the airport to welcome and greet the Royal Family was Governor drs. Eugene Holiday along with first lady Louisa Holiday and Prime Minister Sarah Wescot Williams. Queen Beatrix stepped on to the red carpet greeted the St. Maarten Officials before inspecting the guards of honor. At the Airport, the Wilhelmus and the St. Maarten song were played before a bouquet of flowers was handed to Queen Beatrix by Naomi Selena Kemble of Oranje School and Princess Maxima by Tyrese Shemar McBeancoutar of St. Joseph School.Read more...

Royal Off-the-Square to expand; new addition planned | new, square ...

The Jackson County Community Theatre Board of Directors recently approved plans for a new addition to the Royal Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown. This new space will hold four restrooms, a lobby, a concession stand and a “green room” space for actors with additional dressing areas.

Joe Bradley, the board president, was quoted as saying in a press release that the need for these improvements has been apparent for many years. Traffic flow in the current lobby is restricted by lines at the box office and concession stand. Often, the second act of the play has to be delayed to wait for lines at the restroom and concession to clear.

“We feel certain that we will have the support of our patrons as we begin this project,” Bradley said, “since they have gamely withstood the discomforts of our house for a long time, albeit with some complaints.”

The JCCT board has decided that the time is right to ask their patrons to help them with the addition. Grants are also being sought by board member Erin Ortman.
